The IEEE Vehicular Technology Society and the entire organizing committee invite you to participate in our fall international conference in cosmopolitan Montréal, Québec, Canada. This will be the 64th Vehicular Technology Conference, drawing attendees and scientific contributions from all over the world.
The VTC 2006 Fall Conference bears the theme «Embracing Diversity» which reflects key defining characteristics of our industry’s current evolution as well as the specific flavour and atmosphere of our host city. As such, the conference will focus on the integration of various physical layer and network technologies required to implement ubiquitous, all-pervasive, high capacity wireless communication access.
Nestled between mountain and river, Montréal's downtown core vibrates to a world beat. You should not miss the unique underground pedestrian network, linking thousands of boutiques, restaurants, and attractions. As well, while walking through Old Montreal, with its cobblestone streets, you will embrace French North American culture at its finest. At night, Montréal catches a second wind and the action shifts over to comedy clubs, as well as port, martini, and wine bars. Moreover, you will experience this event under our famous fall foliage. Our committee will be working hard to ensure a world-class conference so that your visit will be memorable. Please mark your calendars for 25-28 September 2006.
Nous vous souhaitons la bienvenue à Montréal!
We wish you a warm welcome to Montreal !
Welcome from the Technical Program Co-chairs

On behalf of the Technical Program Committee, it is our pleasure to invite you to an exciting technical program offered by the sixty-fourth semi-annual IEEE Vehicular Technology 2006 (VTC 2006 Fall).
There were 1126 manuscript entries in the paper submission system TrackChair©, for all tracks. Each submitted paper was thoroughly independently reviewed in accordance with standard blind reviewing practice by at least 2 reviewers, with a final average in excess of 3 reviewers per paper. As a result, 617 papers will be published in the conference proceedings, 409 of which will be presented in oral technical sessions, while 208 papers will be presented as posters.
The technical tracks for this VTC cover all areas of interest to the vehicular technology community, including vehicular communications issues (radio propagation, access and resource management, transceiver technologies, multiple antenna systems, satellite communications...), navigation and positioning technologies, wireless services and networks, as well as circuits issues and transportation.
In addition, this year, a special track has been devoted to papers covering industrial applications and prototyping efforts, the Vehicular Industry Technology Track. We hope it will give researchers from both industry and academia the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas.
Putting together the technical program of VTC 2006 Fall would not have been possible without the tremendous volunteer efforts of the entire technical program committee. The review process is very much a community effort, and we were fortunate to have an incredible group of people serving as our technical program committee. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the reviewers, the 190 technical program committee members, and the 16 track chairs/co-chairs, who have spent their valuable time reviewing papers and coordinating other reviews. We are also, of course, most grateful to the authors who prepared and submitted papers.
We hope that you will visit us in Montreal for VTC 2006 Fall so that you can take advantage of all this wonderful work, learn about the latest research results, see old friends, meet new ones, and discuss the most exciting and thought-provoking ideas. We have no doubt that this conference will offer a great opportunity for our community to get together and for you to learn about the latest developments in our area.
We wish you an enjoyable conference.
Welcome from the VTS President

On behalf of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 64th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC) at the Regency Hyatt Hotel in Montréal, Quebec, Canada. It will be held from 25 to 28 September 2006. The objective of the conference is to bring together researchers and practioners in the field of vehicular technology. The conference will feature world-class plenary speakers, tutorials, and technical sessions. Montréal is the largest city in the Canadian province of Quebec. It is a modern yet historic island city with optimism and hope flowing through its streets. Montréal sits in the St Lawrence River and gets its name from the 764 feet high Mont-Royal, the only high mountain in the Montréal landscape. Much like New York City, it is considered the diverse business center of Canada, with the best of urban skyscrapers and historic French commodities. Montréal is the simplest way to get a taste of Europe while in North America. Many visitors remark upon how certain areas of Montréal resemble the streets of Paris. |
The objectives of the Vehicular Technology Society are scientific and educational in nature. Its fields of interest include mobile radio, motor vehicles, land transportation and wireless. A large technical conference requires an organizational structure, which comprises mostly volunteers, who are Vehicular Technology Society members. Our success is dependent on the quality of work of these volunteers, who have given greatly of their time to making this event a success. I wish to convey a special thank you to the General Co-chairmen, Sofiène Affes, Charles Despins and Dr. David Haccoun, and the Technical Program Co-chairmen, Dr. Fabrice Labeau and Alex Stéphenne, and the other members of the Conference Committee for their leadership and implementation of an outstanding technical program.
Finally, I wish to thank all of the delegates attending the conference, and wish you a most enjoyable stay in Montréal.
Sincerely,
Dennis Bodson, President
Vehicular Technology Society
