Summary—The 5G standards are expected to be approved by ITU around 2020 timeframe followed by the initial commercial deployments in the early 2020s. As such, it is time to initiate a brainstorming endeavor towards the beyond-5G wireless networks; we refer to such networks as 5G+ in order to include the evolution of the 5G standards in 2020s and to perform the groundwork for those to be developed towards 2030.

This panel is aimed to discuss the key technologies of 5G beyond, from spectrum requirement and use cases point of view. Invited speakers will come from both industry as well as academy in effort to reach common views. The goal of the panel is to bring together researchers from industry and academia to present and discuss the latest developments in 5G beyond technologies, their impact on industrial standards and the resulting technical challenges. The panel is going to cover the Vision, requirements, use cases, and trend of 5G beyond or 6G; Key technologies of 5G beyond or 6G; and Impacts to industrial standards to APAC Region and worldwide.

Summary—5G technology will be a driving force behind much-anticipated applications such as ubiquitous broadband, autonomous vehicles, and smart factory automation. But making those applications a reality makes testing 5G a critical step. This technology is approaching and there is a lot of talk about testing and measurement methods and challenges. Equipment vendors and operators now promote the test solutions for 5G technologies. The 5G measurement will be very costly since the scenario differs dramatically from 4G where most tests used cables. 5G implies more widely available spectrum at frequencies up to 100 GHz, enabling implementation of Massive MIMO, involving multiple small antenna elements and in-device processing. This will move the emphasis from antenna testing towards system testing. Devices and network equipment will need to be tested at system level in many different configurations, including facing high gain interferences from other devices. As a result, the amount of Over-The-Air (OTA) test cases will increase significantly. In combination with the obligation to verify the radio & antenna performance in 5G, this puts high demands on the capacity and capabilities of OTA testing in product development, production and aftermarket support. In this panel, we are going to discuss further on test and measurement issues and challenges, beside testbed experience by the industries in 5G environment to the smart vehicular services and communication technology in general.
